Weight loss supplement details

First, some excerpts from a press release I recently found:

BUENA PARK, Calif., February 20, 2008 – The struggle to shed pounds through diet and exercise alone is a losing battle for many Americans, yet dietary supplements designed to help fight the battle of the bulge often over promise and under deliver. Quixtar Inc. and its sister company, Amway Corporation, are launching an all-natural dietary supplement that was shown in a human clinical trial to deliver statistically significant weight loss when used in conjunction with regular physical activity and a low calorie diet.

Quixtar is offering Nutrilite® Slimmetry™ dietary supplement as part of the Nutrilite product line. Nutrilite is the world’s leading brand of vitamin, mineral and dietary supplements1. It’s the only global vitamin and mineral brand to grow, harvest, and process plants on its own certified organic farms2. Quixtar chose Slimmetry because it is all-natural and clinically tested, further supporting Nutrilite’s commitment to promoting optimal health through natural methods.

Slimmetry enhances weight and fat loss when used in conjunction with regular physical activity and a low-calorie diet. During a 14-week clinical test, people who used Slimmetry while on a low-calorie diet lost, on average, 5.4 lbs. more weight and 5.6 lbs. more fat than those taking a placebo. This product is ephedra-free. The all-natural, clinically-tested formula combines four herbal extracts from green tea, yerba mate, birch leaf, and coleus forskohlii. Quixtar provides tips and ideas with each purchase of Slimmetry, along with a lifestyle support brochure to help users commit to regular exercise and healthy eating.
And a word about the ingredient details, courtesy of google:
* Green Tea – increases fat oxidation (helps body use fat as an energy source) and helps speed up metabolism

* Yerba Mate – stimulant similar to but gentler than coffee (caffeine-free)

* Birch Leaf – contains detoxification, cleansing, and anti-bacterial properties.
* Coleus Forskohlii – stimulates quicker release of fatty acids
Finally, a small disclaimer: although I am starting to get more and more excited about the unique ingredients of this product, I feel like it is a nice complement, not a catalyst, to a weight loss program that includes exercise and more importantly, a healthy, balanced diet.  Supplements, particularly those with green tea in it, do not mix well with skipped meals or an unbalanced diet.
